For the third year, BODYARMOR brought together an incredible list of creators and influencers for their Creators Cup—a small-sided, 3v3 tournament featuring six teams of four players.
Different from year’s past where the event took place at the MLS All-Star Game, this year’s BODYARMOR Creators Cup was held in Miami to coincide with the start of Leagues Cup—the month-long competition that pits all MLS and Liga MX teams against each other.
We worked closely with BODYARMOR on planning and execution of the event, including everything from location scouting, event production, talent sourcing and management, and content production.
Bringing BODYARMOR Creators Cup to life
Once BODYARMOR agreed to shift the event from the MLS All-Star Game to Miami, we hit the ground running on two fronts: finding the right venue and using our rolodex to find the right creators and influencers to participate.
After touring MAPS Backlot in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood we knew it was the perfect location for the Creators Cup. The 10,000 sq. ft. space had a both a bar, as well as a back lot entertainment space on which we’d build the temporary 3v3 field.
As far as talent, we brought in more than 30 creators and influencers with varying backgrounds, from FIFA World Cup participants to NFL Pro Bowl participants to dating reality show participants. Each joined one of the six teams: 305, Art Basel FC, BODYARMOR, Black Star, Ochocinco, Secret Walls.
The group was headlined by Landon Donovan (BODYARMOR), Tim Howard (Black Star), and Chad Ochocinco (Ochocinco), but also featured other former players like Brek Shea (305), soccer freestylers Laura Biondo (305) and DJ Diveny (Ochocinco), artists like Terry Monorex and Geoff Gouveia (Secret Walls), creators like Brian Lafortune (Art Basel FC), as well as Netflix’s Love is Blind participant, Kwame Appiah (BODYARMOR).
Content fit for Creators
With all the great talent on hand, we had to come up with the content plan to match. Our strategy was threefold—lean on creators to build hype and drive awareness pre-event, showcase the energy and excitement mid-event, and leverage our biggest creators and broadest amplifiers post-event to show off Creators Cup from first whistle to final celebration.
And our strategy paid work wonders. The one-night event has garnered more than 5M impressions and nearly 100K engagements (as of time of publish) across social media.
Creators posted on their channels during the event, but we also worked with them to create more than 10 bespoke pieces of unique content, from ‘Drippin’ or Trippin’ with Break Shea to a POV of Kwame Appiah defending Chad Ochocinco.
